CATHERINE LANE

Catherine Lane is an established mid career artist who lives and works on the north coast of NSW. Following initial study at Charles Sturt University, Lane trained in mingei pottery in Mashiko in Japan, later followed by studies at Monash and Southern Cross Universities (MVA).  Lane has undertaken residencies in Hill End and Gaya Ceramic Centre in Ubud, Bali, where she was also interim Director in 2018.

Since 2012, Lane has regularly collaborated in cross disciplinary artworks, notably with Linelle Stepto in The Bund Project presenting mixed media installations that focus on the human:animal connection and also with Moira Finucane human rights activist, environmental scientist and performance artist (of Finucane and Smith Melbourne) whose epic productions travel the world. Core to Lane’s creative practice is the exploration of the expanding distance between humans and the natural world and much of her work relies on invoking humour and empathy in the viewer to bring attention to this crisis.

Lane’s work is held in collections nationally and internationally.
