Elaine Richter

Elaine M.B Richter is a seasoned ceramic artist with a rich career spanning over three decades. Recently relocated to the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, Elaine has returned her full attention to her artistic practice after many successful years as the founder and director of several prominent café/gallery enterprises in the Australian Capital Territory.

Elaine’s ceramic work is known for its expressive form, refined functionality, and strong connection to ceremonial and corporate commissions. Her notable projects include liturgical pieces for Saint Raphael’s Catholic Church in Queanbeyan and Saint Christopher’s Cathedral in Manuka, as well as unique decorative works for Martin Marietta International and Japanese corporate clients. She has also produced bespoke ceramic gifts for the Housing Industry Association (HIA) and sister city diplomatic exchanges.

With a background in both studio production and arts education, Elaine has worked as a production potter, primary school ceramics teacher, curator, and gallery director. Her extensive experience includes founding and operating Design Plus Gallery in Queanbeyan, Yarralumla Gallery & The Oaks Brasserie in Canberra, and The Riverbank of Queanbeyan Café/Gallery.

Since 2023, she has served as Director and Artist-in-Residence at Byron-Hinterland Pottery, continuing to create work that reflects her passion for clay, design, and the expressive potential of the handmade object.

Elaine holds formal qualifications in Visual Arts and Ceramics from Fremantle TAFE and has completed a Diploma in Studio Ceramics in Western Australia.
