Jay Richardson

Jay’s sculptural work is inspired by old industrial landscapes and the passage of time. She is fascinated by the oxidation of metal—seeing rust not as decay, but as a storyteller and a metaphor for impermanence. Her pieces replicate weathered surfaces, capturing the beauty in deterioration. Through her work, she recreates discarded objects, transforming them into contemporary art that bridges human history and nature’s slow reclamation.

Jay’s ceramics challenge perception—what appears to be aged metal is, in fact, clay. She invites viewers to look closer, to find beauty in unexpected places.

Working across wheel-thrown, hand-built, and cast techniques, Jay crafts both functional and sculptural pieces. Her tableware and lighting designs feature strong, symmetrical forms with a refined, minimalist aesthetic, while her exhibition pieces embrace texture and organic transformation.

She enhances surfaces with carving and faceting along with oxides, slips, and glazes, experimenting with depth and contrast.
